Tooth Powder

Recently I have been a little obsessed about herbal dental health and have been reading the book called Dental Herbalism by Leslie Alexander PhD, RH (AHG) and Linda a. Straub – Bruce, BS Ed, RHD, which is a great read and if you are interested in the subject at all you should snag a copy. They have some great toothpowder recipes and we have a few common ingredients but I'm partial to my combo. :-)

4 tablespoons baking soda/charcoal/ bentonite clay

1 tablespoon myrrh powder

1 tablespoon comfrey root/leaf powder

2 heaping tablespoons of white oak bark powder

2 heaping tablespoons of plantain leaf powder

2 heaping tablespoons of horsetail powder

1 tablespoon cinnamon powder

3 tablespoons black walnut hull powder

1 tablespoon clove powder

2 tablespoons xylitol

15 drops of peppermint essential oil

This combo is helpful in creating a healthy mouth biome by killing off nasty bacteria (brushing and flossing are the first steps there) that cause bad breath and gum disease. It also can help tighten and tone gum tissue, and strengthen enamel while re-mineralizing teeth (by the way your saliva re-mineralizes teeth too).

Happy brushing and flossing!
