My name is Cameron Strouss and I am a Clinical Herbalist.
Thank you for finding our website!
I want to introduce myself and tell you my story and about all that we offer here at Deep Roots Apotheké & Clinic.
10 years ago I was in the middle of the standard model of healthcare. I was 16 and became injured due to strenuous dance training. A year later, after physical therapy didn’t help, I had surgery on both ankles. The surgery was complicated by my post operation care- my blood flow was restricted because of improperly applied casts. This lead to a large hematoma up the side of my right leg, blood blisters, and pressure sores, and to make things worse after I began physical therapy I realized that the surgery didn't repair the injury but made it worse.
The emotional and physical trauma of the operation paired with chronic, undiagnosed food allergies triggered a cascade of health issues. Over the course of 5 years I was having issues such as: ADD, anxiety, poor digestion, gas, hand warts, constipation, severe mood swings, depression, diabetes, hypothyroidism, vomiting with my cycles, either PCOS or Endometriosis, and adrenal fatigue. The care I received felt as if it had limited scope and it lacked compassion and the ‘find the root’ mentality that I so firmly abide by today in my practice.
After 3 years of searching and a lengthening laundry list of health issues I discovered herbal medicine. I worked with traditional folk herbalist Darryl Patton for 2 years while earning my Biology Degree from the University of Montevallo. After graduation I worked with the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in the Kaul Wildflower Garden honing my ID and native plant knowledge. Then it was off to Williams, Oregon to work with the tincture company Herb Pharm and participate in their internship program. Following that experience I found Clinical Herbalist Thomas Easley RH (AHG) and began my clinical Herb training. Thomas rounded out my training combining nutrition, herbs, and supplements in his clinical training program and through him I discovered the world of Functional Medicine. I utilize herbs, supplements, and nutrition in my practice and there isn’t a week that goes by in my practice that someone doesn't tell me that they see results!
The people that I work with have similar stories to mine. My clients have health issues that just couldn’t be addressed through the standard medical model of replacement, symptom management, or surgical intervention. Most people believe there is another way.
People are looking for a more alternative and preventative models of care, within which we do the most simple, effective and least harmful methods first and those are lifestyle, diets, addressing nutrient deficiencies and utilizing the tools of herbal medicine with little side effects and big results.
When I work with someone they get an individualized protocol containing diet, supplementation, handcrafted and wild harvested herbal medicines, and lifestyle changes that we hone together over the course of 4 appointments with the goal that we achieve lasting and sustainable change for the better. I listen to your needs and we tailor your protocol to something that fits into your life instead of trying to make something work for you that doesn't fit in. I know what it is like to not get the answers, attention, or care that you really need and therefore I strive to fill that need.
In the clinic we also do regular acute care appointments for snotty noses, sore throats, or other acute issues such as: stomachaches or ear infections, minor burns, bronchitis, diaper rash, cough, congestion, gastrointestinal disorders, insect bites, itchy skin, nausea, rashes, runny noses, sinus infections, skin allergies, and skin infections. We can help you address your every day ups and downs with a quick, easy, and effective herbal regime that is most compatible with your constitution and concerns. My goal is always to keep you from wasting your money on supplements and herbs that are not effective for you!
At Deep Roots Apotheké & Clinic we focus on education, a deeper connection with self and health throughout life. And so you can find us teaching classes, in our clinic offering walk-in acute care appointments and package appointments for more chronic issues. We teach wild harvesting and medicine making classes and love to share our passion of wild foods and medicines. We are looking forward to serving the community through providing everyday herbal health wellness products at various farmers markets starting in April 2016. We also have a growing online presence through our blog, website, and Facebook, and Instagram with the goal of education and furthering the idea that nourishment through diet and herbalism can change peoples lives.
Herbalism can change your life.
