New Volunteers

Over the past 3 years that Deep Roots has been up and running we have seen many milestones. We have 2 offices, a regular Pepper Place Farmers Market presence, a blossoming clinic, a full apothecary and a love of service and these are but a few of the highlights of our organization since its humble beginnings in 2013.

Our Volunteers have been an instrumental since the very early months in keeping momentum, helping with harvests, processing, and making medicines. Now our volunteers served to organize and implement a number of events, been public advocates within the community and, of course, acted as willing and able hands at Deep Roots Apotheké & Clinic in our harvesting and medicine making. The work of our organization has been greatly extended through volunteer service into areas that, otherwise, could not be considered because of limited resources. We are grateful for all that our volunteers/interns do and we would love to join us!

We now only recruit volunteers 1 x yearly and will be actively recruiting in February and March but you can apply now with the application below.

We accept 13 volunteers and 2 alternates. Alternates attend Orientation but are not active volunteers unless another volunteer must drop from the program.

Once we have our 13 Volunteers and 2 alternates new volunteer requests will be put on a list for next year.

Volunteers and alternates will have a required Volunteer Orientation April 1st and 2nd.

We provide hands on learning experiences with our 1 x monthly classes in exchange for working 5 Pepper Place Market days 1-2 of which you will be a back-up volunteer in case someone has a conflict and can't attend their assigned day.

Classes include harvesting, gardening, garbling, and some medicine making. They are held in Montevallo, AL.

You are expected to work the Pepper Place Farmer's Market with us to fulfill your hours. They will be tracked by our office staff.

If you do not fulfill your hours or do not show up for your scheduled service you will be asked to leave the volunteer program.

You can volunteer to provide help at our public class offerings in exchange for free attendance to the class.
